New Ibanez Bass Project
Here is an Ibanez Bass an EXB404. That I bought on Ebay with a buy it now price of $100
Not just any Ibanez Bass, this one was built in the Peerless Factory in Korea. Most guitars that are outsourced come from larger and more efficient factories. Ibanez made there own Bass Guitars in the Nagoya Factory based in Japan up until the mid 80’s. Then they started to outsource to lower cost countries. The lower costs meant they produced value for money instruments. They eventually sourced from Korea, Indonesia and China.
The Bass that I’m going to fix up is dated 1989 and the serial number hints at October because of the 00499. Ibanez Guitars had a single digit for the year and a 5 digit serial number. Each month was also allocated with up to 3,000 guitars. So by the time you get to February, your into the 10’s of thousands. Eventually getting to 36,000 in the serial numbers at September the next year.

About Peerless.
Peerless Guitars were only made for Ibanez in 1987 and 1988. So what gives? Guitars were made in advance of the year of release. Manufacturing was from October to October. So this Bass Guitar is definitely a Peerless due to the P on the serial number, and definitely not made in 1989, but made in 1988.
The 499 is the start of the date range. 0 to 3,000 were made in October to be shipped out and ready for the following year. So this Bass was number 499 in October of 1988. Which was Wednesday the 5th of October, 1988.

Well, Peerless Guitars are renowned for their quality control and exacting detail. Therefore, MOST guitars made at the peerless factory hold a very desirable appeal. Gibson is another such manufacturer that used Peerless to build their budget Epiphone models. Again, the quality is unrivalled. They’ve built guitars for a number of Companies including Gretsch, Gibson, Eastman and many more.

This Particular Ibanez 4 String Bass was a bargain at $100 on Ebay. Although I did have to travel 2 hours to get it : ) But with the P serial number I thought this Ibanez Bass was worth it.
